Kimmel Attacks GOP Senator Over Health Care Bill
Why can’t Hollywood celebrities just shut up? No wonder ratings continue to plummet in the T.V. and movie industry. Jimmy Kimmel took the opportunity on Tuesday to attack Senator Bill Cassidy of Louisiana over the Cassidy–Graham health care bill. Kimmel accused the Senator of lying about the bill and then proceeded to use his son’s open-heart surgery to push for socialized medicine.
Jimmy started his rant by stating:
I know you guys are gonna find this hard to believe, but a few months ago, after my son had open-heart surgery, which was something I spoke about on the air, a politician, a senator named Bill Cassidy, from Louisiana, was on my show, and he wasn’t very honest. It seemed like he was being honest.
Cassidy got a lot of credit and attention for coming off like a rare, reasonable voice in the Republican Party when it came to health care for coming up with something he called, and I didn’t name it this, “The Jimmy Kimmel Test,” which was, in a nutshell, no family should be denied medical care, emergency or otherwise, because they can’t afford it. The Senator agreed to that; he said he would only support a health care bill that made sure a child like mine would get the health coverage he needs no matter how much money his parents make, and that did not have annual or lifetime caps.
Kimmel Used His Son To Push For Socialized Medicine
Jimmy Kimmel accused Cassidy of repeatedly saying on television that the plan he championed would get rid of the lifetime caps and prevent insurers from raising rates for people with preexisting conditions, then continued asserting of the new Cassidy-Graham plan that it would indeed pass the “Jimmy Kimmel Test,” snapping, “With this one, your child will get the care he needs if, and only if, his father is Jimmy Kimmel. Otherwise, you might be screwed.”
“Coverage for all,” “No discrimination based on pre-existing conditions,” “Lower premiums for middle-class families,” and “No lifetime caps.” Kimmel continued, “And guess what? The new bill does none of those things.”
Jimmy went on to say, “They’re trying to sneak this scam of a bill they cooked up without an analysis from the bipartisan Congressional Budget Office. They don’t even want you to see it.”
Now, where has that been said before?
Kimmel continued on with his rant by saying, “And I never imagined I would get involved in something like this; this is not my area of expertise.”
The late-night host then tweeted out a number for the members of his audience to call to make a fuss over the bill.
Jimmy Kimmel concluded by proudly saying “I am politicizing my son’s health problems because I have to … somehow Japan and England and Canada and Germany, France, they all figured health care out, and don’t say they have terrible health care because it’s just not true.”
“There’s a new Jimmy Kimmel Test for you; it’s called a lie detector test. Stop by the studio and take it anytime.”
