Clash of the Titans
After Ted Cruz scorched Bernie Sanders in a debate on Obamacare in February, the two will go at it again. On the same channel, and in the same fashion: a town hall debate.
The debate will take place on Wednesday, October 18th, at 9:00 PM, Eastern Time.
As CNN reports, the topic of this debate will be on Trump’s tax reform.
“With attempts to repeal and replace Obamacare stalled, Republicans in Congress are now squarely focused on passing President Trump’s tax reform plan, and Sen. Cruz and Sen. Sanders will debate the best path forward on this critical issue.”
Dana Bash and Jake Tapper will be the moderators at the upcoming debate.
“Bizzaro World” Presidential Debate
Ted Cruz and Bernie Sanders were the runners-up in last year’s blockbuster Presidential election. On the Republican ticket, Ted Cruz put up a fight against now-President Donald Trump, but gassed out just before Trump reached the magic number of 1,237 delegates required to secure the nomination.
Meanwhile, Bernie Sanders was able to take the fight all the way to the Democratic National Convention against Hillary Clinton, but was heavily outnumbered by Clinton’s delegates and superdelegates, and lost the race. Though some believe Bernie was cheated out of the race when information came out that revealed Clinton’s ties to the debate moderators, as well as the DNC chairman Debbie Wasserman Schultz.
Talking Trump and Taxes
Much like the last debate, the issue of repealing and replacing Obamacare will likely come up in the debate. But as mentioned, the debate should be focused around President Trump’s tax reform plan.
Trump is currently fighting to have his tax plan passed, which the Democrats have deemed a play to the rich. It is likely that Sanders will try to hit this note during the debate. And For the sake of bringing Republicans together to pass the reform, Cruz will call on his Republican colleagues to vote to make the economy stronger.
