ALEXANDRIA SHOOTER HAD PLANS TO ELIMINATE FREEDOM CAUCUS LAWMAKERS
The gunman who opened fire on GOP congressmen at a Virginia baseball field on Wednesday had made a handwritten list of Republican lawmakers’ names & office numbers.
The FBI found the list in a van belonging to James T. Hodgkinson. These six lawmakers were all known to be conservative members of the Freedom Caucus:
Reps. Scot DesJarlais (R-TN), Trent Franks (R-AZ), Jeff Duncan (R-SC), Jim Jordan (R-OH), Mo Brooks (R-AL) and Morgan Griffith (R-VA).
FREEDOM CAUCUS MEMBERS TARGETED BY SHOOTER
The Freedom Caucus is a congressional caucus consisting of conservative and libertarian Republican Congressmen, women. It was established in 2015 to be a small, cohesive, active group to advance many of the same issues that came to national prominence during the Tea Party movement.
Rep. Steve Scalise, R-La., and four others were injured in the shooting on Wednesday before U.S. Capitol Police fatally shot Hodgkinson. Scalise’s condition was upgraded today from critical to serious by doctors at his DC hospital.
Investigators believe Hodgkinson, 66, acted alone in his assault on the Republican baseball players. According to his wife, the shooter moved from his Illinois home shortly after the election and moved to the Washington DC area.
Hodgkinson was living out of a white cargo van in Alexandria for months and stalking GOP lawmakers. He was seen showering and working on a computer at a YMCA across the street from the ballpark where the shooting took place.
CONGRESSWOMAN MARTHA MCSALLY, R-AZ
Rep. Gabby Giffords, D-AZ was shot and severely wounded in 2011. Six others were killed. Her injuries forced her to resign her House seat. That seat is now held by GOP Rep. Martha McSally.
A man was charged yesterday with three counts of threatening McSally, but she refuses to cower. In an interview on FOX News today, Rep. Martha McSally, R-AZ, put the political violence of recent months in clear perspective:
First, the assailants are totally responsible for their own actions and the rest of us belong in one of two categories: Facilitators and Bystanders. Facilitators encourage, aid and abet political violence, but the majority of us are just Bystanders. McSally says if us Bystanders see something, we should say something.
THE LEFT HAS LONG BEEN VIOLENT
This writer has long noticed that The Left is far more comfortable with political violence than The Right is. The Left not only encourages violence, but too often excuses it in the name of a left-wing cause. Yet, The Right usually shies away from violence in the name of a right-wing cause, and disavows the assailant.
